The rain and storms of the past few days brought a freshness to the air on this crisp autumn morning in el Garraf. The pathway was strewn with needles cast from the pine trees, washed down the hill by gushing torrents, making a soft carpet for us to walk on.
Like so many places we’ve seen this area is also spoilt by pollution. After a rainfall the chemicals used in the vineyards are washed into the river and carried through the forest where they form white foam, similar to the grim, clingy stuff we saw in the Rio Ebro at Caspe.
Autumn cuts a starker landscape, stripped of its foliage and cover so that bare bones and signs of industrious beauty give new life and new meaning to a familiar place.
Christmas came early in this web; tiny baubles of rain refracting the light of the sun like guiding lights for the tiniest life forms to find their way into the stomach of the former resident.
