Benasque is a little town buried deep in the gorge between Aneto and Parque Natural Posets-Maladeta and serves as a great base for those who seek adventure in the mountains with some great hiking and skiing on offer, depending on which time of year you visit.
Being so close to the French border it’s understandable that a Gallic influence underpins everything from the lodge type buildings to the names of shops.
There’s a tourist information centre which provides excellent details on the national park and local walks, together with maps and emergency numbers.
Another perk is the free wi-fi in the square where you can bask in the sun while catching up with your Facebook. Or better still, forget Facebook and get up the mountains.
The narrow streets and tall buildings of Benasque offer great shelter from the blazing summer sun and we were grateful for that and the chance of a few Clara Sins.
When we got there it was too hot for walking so we took our time in the town and relaxed at one of the many bars and watched the world go by.
