Camping Parque da Ponte is a fairly basic campsite in many respects. There is no supermarket, no bar or restaurant, no washing machines and no activities. However, what it does have going for it is a great location between the municipal swimming pool and a beautiful park on the edge of Braga, terraced pitches, access to the swimming pool (free) and lovely staff.

At just 20,000 square meters Camping Parque da Ponte is not a big site but as a base for visiting the nearby old town of Braga and/or the Bom Jesus do Monte, it’s perfect. (See more pictures of Braga here.)

If you have a four-legged friend then turn left out the site and within five minutes you will discover a delightful little park with a boating lake. This is great for walking your beloved befurred quadruped, and has facilities for children (play areas) and a café and restaurant that serve ok snacks and ice creams.

Because it’s a municipal site, apparently you need to be part of the international camping community (and must have the paperwork to prove it) however, we had no problem without and the prices here are unbeatable. We paid just over ten euros a night for two humans, two quadrupeds, a 6 metre long van and electricity.

There isn’t a supermarket on site but there is a drinks and snack machine where you can buy coffees, teas, hot chocolates, crisps, kit kats and some horrible cakes. For a decent supermarket there is a Pingo Doce on the main street as you walk into town or a Continente (follow the signposts) a five or ten minute drive away.

There is no washing machine here, so unless you are fond of handwashing, best to get this done before you arrive.

The shower and toilet facilities are good – nothing special but the water is hot and the facilities are kept clean by the lovely staff.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it was quiet during the week and we had plenty of room to spread out and no one seemed to mind that our (fairly) well behaved doggies were off the lead most of the time. The staff made us feel like part of the family and we were quite sad to leave.

In all a great base for exploring Braga within walking distance of the city and very doggy friendly. Thumbs and paws up all round.
