As the most developed seaside resort around Aveiro there are plenty of options when it comes to places to stay and among them is Campismo Praia da Barra; a compact and densely populated camp site which offers good facilities at a reasonable rate.
The site is 300 yards from the nearest beach and directly opposite a large supermarket which adds to the convenience.
Once beyond the office and barriers the site is divided in half; on the left are very sheltered plots for RVs, campervans, caravans and large tents, while to the right are open spaces for smaller tents to pitch. There is also an unshaded RV plot.
Toilets and showers are okay, not the best out there but certainly not terrible and outside the entrance, oddly placed as it seems, is a vending machine selling snacks and canned drinks.
At the back of the toilets are the washing facilities including warm water for washing dishes, hand washing basins for clothes and a washing machine for which you need a token from reception (3.50 euros for up to 7kg load).
There is no pool but with the beach being so close that’s not an issue.
The site is popular with surfers who take advantage of the Atlantic conditions but there are also a lot of residents who have filled every square inch of their plots with awnings, lights and other paraphernalia. On weekends it gets very noisy as the locals tend to party of a night and have large dinners together on a Sunday. The atmosphere is friendly though and the residents are quite welcoming, especially the younger children (if you have a dog).
For the campervan, electricity, two adults, one dog and the pitch we paid 18 euros per night which for high season is very reasonable, especially given the location. Privacy might be limited as might peace and quiet but if you’re out at the beach all day and trawling the restaurants of Praia da Barra by night you won’t care too much.
