Costa del Sol
Estepona port is full of fairly decent restaurants and – in our limited experience – the quality of the food on offer has been pretty consistent in its impressiveness. From Elemi vegetarian around the corner to the decent-sized portion of fries at ViceVersa – we’ve been lucky.
De La Mar has a global menu with a breakfast selection offering typical foods from England, Switzerland, Greece, the US, Netherlands, France and plain continental. There is a vegetarian breakfast – which is a rare old find in Spain – which consists of eggs, tomato, hash browns, mushrooms, baked beans and toast – and costs €5.95.
There is also toast and scrambled eggs; toasted baguette with olive oil; muesli with yoghurt; yoghurt with honey and walnuts; or toast with butter and jam, along wit han omelette – all vegetarian friendly.
Vegetarian friendly lunches include Dutch cheese salad rolls; goat chese, walnut and rocket salad with honey and mustard dressing; and French onion soup with garlic bread.
We went there for breakfast and I had Caribbean coconut cake which arrived in a giant moist and tasty chunk with gorgeous vanilla ice cream, and my significant udder had a bespoke vegetarian breakfast which consisted of fried eggs on toast with hash browns.
Dessert options include Dutch apple cake, Italian walnut coffee cake, Dutch pear crumble, Spanish peach tart, lemon drizzle cake etc and each one costs €4.25 and is served with ice cream, cream or custard.
There is a lovely dog-friendly terrace with wicker chairs and flowers plus international newspapers. And free wi-fi.
It’s a popular haunt which is always a good sign. Service is friendly and proficient and food is served quickly.
