Carrer de Balboa, 13 (or close by)
There’s not much to say about this little fruit and vegetable store at the back of La Barceloneta, other than that it is truly and completely delightful.
The products are displayed beautifully in random boxes and baskets upon tables and across the floor and the range of produce is pretty massive. Other than the usual array of potatoes, tomatoes and apples etc, you will find here raw beetroot (not always easy to find), fennel, different types of cucumber, peppers of every colour
Different wicker baskets display tomatoes in many varieties from heirloom tomatoes on the vine, that are so pungent and divine that the smell is only matched by their crimson and shiny outer; to massive sliceable tomatoes and the sweetest cherry tomatoes.
They also sell sundried tomatoes, chilli peppers, artichokes, dried fruits, wild mushrooms and a few strange products like sausages.
Everything looks divine as you enter the store feeling like you’ve just stumbled upon a filmset.
I had avocadoes, mangoes, vine tomatoes and garlic – everything was naturally imperfect and perfectly sumptuous.
Totally divine. No that doesn’t quite cut it. Totally, fucking divine.
It’s on carrer del Balboa – around number 13 although the building wasn’t marked, but you’ll find it.
