Fruit Away is a lovely modern juice bar in the centre of Valencia – a few moments from the giant correos (post office).
I’m always perturbed by the lack of availability of fresh juices – other than the ubiquitous orange juice – in Spain. In such a warm and sunny paradise, where good fruits are so easily grown, fruit juices should be a high priority. Fruit Away is one of very few juice bars I’ve come across despite visiting Barcelona, Madrid, Santiago de Compostela, Granada, San Sebastian and Bilbao and Fruit Away is certainly one of the best.
Fruit Away is mainly a takeaway, although there are clinical white chairs and tables should you wish to drink your juice in air conditioned heaven during the summer months.
Juices come in small, medium and large, costing €2.70, €3.20 and €4.20 respectively. You can choose from a base of water, skimmed milk, natural yogurt, soya milk, lactose-free milk or orange juice and then add fruits or vegetables such as coconut, strawberry, kiwi, lime, lemon, mango, apple, pear, pineapple, banana, grape, melon, peach, grapefruit, watermelon, avocado, celery, tomato, pepper or carrot. You can then add toppings such as cocoa powder, cinnamon, cookie crumbs, mint, honey, cream, basil, oregano, and salt and pepper.
There is also a massive choice of tried-and-tested combinations. And you can also order a litre bottle of amalgamated juices for just under €8 if you don’t want to drink it straightaway.
Make sure you ask for yours without sugar (sin azucar) if you feel that fruit is already sweet enough.
Fruit Away also has a range of fruit salads (macedonias) in two sizes. Choose a base such as soleil (pineapple, strawberry, kiwi, mango, banana and apple), tangerine (raspberry, mandarin, cherry, banana and kiwi), maple (mango, kiwi, pear, strawberry and apple), or kaki (orange, apple, strawberry, kaki fruit and pineapple) and then choose 2 or 3 toppings from the following (white or dark chocolate, honey, cream, Greek yogurt, orange juice, white or dark chocolate chips, granola, dates, cookies, muesli, nuts or raisins.)
Fruit Away serve freshly made crepes too for €3 including three toppings. And they also serve coffee, infusions, and tostada (toast) with oil and salt or fresh cheese.
Delicious juices for the healthy, the thirsty, the hungover, the dehydrated or the raw foodist.
