Herboristeria La Fuente de Salud is a little diamond of a health food shop in the centre of Marbella that has some welcome surprises for you.
Not only does Herboristeria La Fuente de Salud vend a good range of herbs and tinctures along with a decent range of supplements, vitamins etc from Floradix to B12 supplements and spirulina capsules, but they also have some things you might have been missing from your diet due to lack of availability. Coconut oil for example. I hadn’t managed to find any since leaving Barcelona several months prior and so was happy to stumble across large organic jars of the stuff.
If you are a health food nut then you are in luck, as Herboristeria La Fuente de Salud also sells nuts and dried fruit. Some nuts are burnt to buggery and embalmed in salt and others are raw (or at least not roasted). I picked up kilos of walnuts, brazil nuts, cashew nuts, almonds, almond flour, macadamia nuts, coconut flour and some of the biggest, plumpest dates I’ve ever seen. They could double as pillows, should I need them to.
Mostly the store caters for the average health food nut, looking for tofu products such as burgers and sausages, milk substitutes such as oat milk, soya milk, spelt milk and rice milk, different types of rice and pasta, honeys from nearby hills, low sugar jams and marmalades, oils such as olive, nut oils, sesame oil and a few Asian ingredients such as umboshi and noodles.
Other things they sell that I’ve not seen anywhere else in Spain are coconut sugar and flour.
They sell some beautiful looking breads encrusted with linseed and the likes and have a range of sugar free cookies – although it wasn’t obvious how they were sweetened. The Spanish are very keen on maltitol as a sweetener and so that’s a possibility.
If you are celiac they have a small range of cookies, cakes, pastas, breads and crackers.
This is a decent shop that stocks some good stuff. I was very impressed to find Herboristeria La Fuente de Salud. It’s the best health food shop I’ve found since leaving Catalonia.
