Torre del Mar
Costa del Sol
It’s always somewhat of a pleasant shock when I discover these little tiendas (stores) peddling healthy stuffs in unexpected areas.
Torre del Mar is an ugly seaside town with a lovely beach just short of an hour from Malaga, the restaurants in Torre del Mar cater for locals and for undiscerning holiday makers – tapas, cafes, kebab shops, pizzerias and ice cream sellers. Even the church in Torre del Mar is ugly – in a country full of beautiful religious monuments.
La Ventana Natural isn’t massive. There is no other floor or fresh produce section but you may be able to pick up some local honies, vegan spreads, granola, different types of flours and a few vitamins and supplements.
If you’ve run out of wholegrain rice, olive oil, condiments, cane sugar, and a few basic ingredients. If you want rice milk, tahini, organic baby food – La Ventana Natural is your place.
If you are celiac or just not in favour of gluten then you can pick up a few gluten free products such as cookies, bread and crackers, or if you avoid sugar, cookies sweetened with Maltitol – Spain’s favoured sugar replacement for some reason.
They have bottled juices and organic fruit bars plus a few organic baby foods.
In the chilled cabinet, La Ventana Natural has a range of tofu products such as sausages and burgers and soya yogurts.
Natural cosmetics are also available apparently – although there were none visible when I visited.
All in all, whilst La Ventana Natural is no Wholefoods, it does have some basic organic ingredients and is good for celiac sufferers.
