La Canada Shopping Centre
La Canada is a grotesque and massive shopping centre close to Marbella. It caters to Brits abroad (with its branches of Marks and Spencer and Habitat) and locals who want to do all their shopping in one big air-conditioned, strip-lighted asphyxiating paradise. You can get everything from your car fixed and garden furniture to L’Occitane and Apple Mac at La Canada.
Should you find yourself inexplicably shopping at La Canada and bitten by hunger then vegetarians are recommended to try Terra Sana on the ground floor or Lazarran on the gallery.
Lazarran Serves pinchos which are the little snacks atop bread that are popular in Sant Sebastien and come held together with cocktail sticks, that are counted up once you have eaten in order to calculate how much you must pay. Generally, pinchos cost about €1.40 each, although most people with loose a cocktail stick or two along the way.
For vegetarians they had really tasty croquettes filled with spinach or mushroom. These are usually to be found containing chicken or fish and so this was a nice surprise.
They also had tortilla and chunks of bread smothered in cream cheese and topped with walnuts and a sweet salsa.
Lazarran is a chain and the quality of their pinchos isn’t magnificent but we both filled up on vegetarian goodies for eleven euros between us which is almost unheard of in modern day Spain. Better pinchos can be found in Basque Country but if you’re in La Canada and you need to take a breather from the bright lights and chemicals, then head upstairs for a cheap snack.
