Hooray for LLao LLao!
Having been travelling around Spain for over a year, I think I might be close to having visited every Llao Llao franchise there is. From Lloret de Mar to Barcelona to Sitges to Valencia to Malaga and now in Marbella. Llao Llao is always a sight for sore eyes and hot throats. Young Sweep is a particular fan. Not only does he get his only mini Sweep-sized yoggy pot, but he also gets to cool his tinkie on the cold marble floors. A must in the south of Spain. They certainly decorated LLao LLaos with puppies with hot tinkies in min.
Llao Llao vend frozen yogurt and combinations thereof. Although in the winter when the temperatures drop to a thoroughly freezing 12 degrees, they risibly also have a winter menu which consists of brownies (with frozen yogurt), Belgian waffles (with frozen yogurt) and pretty decent hot chocolates.
There are a variety of yogurt combinations and different sizes. Small with one topping, medium with two toppings, colossal (you’ll need to be bulimic) with three toppings etc.
You can choose from toppings such as Spanish Smarties (called something racist, which is delightfully Spanish but would be the equivalent of calling M&Ms wog drops in the UK.), fresh chunks of mango or fresh pineapple, fresh kiwi fruit, muesli, caramelized cookie crumbs, caramelized almonds, fresh banana, granola with chocolate etc. And add to this a sauce or sauces such as dulce de leche (like caramel), dark chocolate, honey, milk chocolate, white chocolate, orange and peach or mango and you have yourself a really delicious, not quite as unhealthy or fattening, cooling treat.
There are also fruit shakes, smoothies and healthy fruit salads served with (you guessed it) frozen yogurt and granola.
The healthiest thing on the menu is the Sanum which consists of three types of fruit, granola, frozen yogurt and honey.
If you’re a vegan you could make up a fruit salad with nuts no problem. If you’re a 97.5% vegan – you could have honey with that.
The interior in Llao Llao is slickly modern with bright white walls and floors and neon green spoons. Llao Llao in Marbella is along the seafront and has an outdoor terrace that affords you sea views. Pretty nice to look at when you are jamming frozen yogurt down your throat.
Llao Llao beats the generic ice cream parlours that you find in every Spanish town, hands down. Sweep concurs and he is never ever wrong. Furry, yes. Wrong, no.
