Saturday Market at Vilafranca del Penedès, Catalonia – part I

The market at Vilafranca in Catalonia
There has been a market at Vilafranca del Penedes in Catalonia since somewhere around the twelfth century – so you could say it was becoming a bit of a habit now.

The Saturday Market at  Vilafranca starts early (get there from about 9am) and packs up not long after midday – although being Spain, there doesn’t seem to be a definitive start and finish time – stallholders arrive and depart when they damn well please.

If you happen to be in the area and want to pick up some local vegetables and/or cheap clothes, accessories, kitchenware, car accessories or just to soak up a bit of Catalonian culture – then head for the centre of town and mooch away.

The market spreads throughout the small town and you can always stop on one of the many cafe terraces for beer, coffee, hot chocolate or a nice sit down and a cup of tea.
