A beautiful airy space with a bamboo ceiling and broad benches constructed from painted palletes, where wooden tables wobble upon the cobbled floor and soothing music does just that, Tarifa Eco-center is a vegetarian and vegan dream. If you like health food, organic ingredients, yoga and free wi-fi – then drop everything and come to Tarifa Eco Center.
A casual chill-out zone that just happens to serve organic food, you can wile away entire afternoons (and mornings) drinking up the free internet whilst partaking of health giving fodder.
We had the seaweed salad and a falafel plate. The seaweed salad was large and full of sprouts. Despite not containing many ingredients (probably romaine lettuce, sprouts, seaweed flakes, tomato and a dressing) the salad was delicious and quite filling. The falafel was served on metal platter (much like an Indian thali) and consisted of four very fresh falafel, a dollop of hummus, herbed pitta bread, tahini and two types of salad. The food here is incredibly fresh and everything is organic. The presentation is good, the atmosphere is delightfully tranquil and the staff friendly and bi-lingual.
The menu is clearly marked with gluten free, vegan and sugar free. There are various salads and principal dishes such as Thai curry, stir fries, burger with fries and salad, and lasagne. They also do a raw vegan (crudivegano) dish, but were unable to make it the day we were there.
To slake a thirst you can choose from Kombucha, various organic teas, organic wines and beers, coffees and juices.
Tarifa Eco Center have various cakes and pastries including a sugar-free tarte de Santiago, coconut cookies and a moist gluten-free carob cake.
The restaurant opens between 9am and 10am for breakfasts.
On the side of the restaurant there is a shop that sells tofu, organic chocolate, organic coffee, the most beautiful looking organic bread (spelt and normal – €3.50 – €4.50), along with mobiles, yoga accessories, organic cotton clothing, candles, incense, large and small bottles of kombucha, Yannoh organic dog and cat food and flours, grains and nuts by weight.
Tarifa Eco Center also have events in the evenings such as talks, screenings and flamenco.
This is a really beautiful spot in a very beautiful town. Glorious food in a light and contemporary space with free wi-fi, open to dogs and with classes in yoga et al.
Did I mention it was heaven?
