New vegetarian and vegan options seem to be appearing in Barcelona all the time. They might be a little behind London, and a lot behind New York and LA, but it seems like in the last year, or so, they really seem to be getting the hang of the whole organic and health food thing.
These are some of the best vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants that I’ve discovered whilst living in and travelling through Barcelona. I’ll add to this list as new ones are discovered.
C/ Roger de Flor, 216
C/ Sicília, 402
C/ Hostafrancs de Sió, 17
C/ Pegàs, 6-8
C/ Ciutat de Granada, 130
Plaça de Lesseps, 4-6
Via Favència, 215
A busy vegetarian chain with a cheap menu of the day. Vegan options. Great for a quick and not badly priced lunch.
Calle Pintor Fortuny, 25
Lovely atmosphere and good vegetarian food in El Raval – a few minutes walk from the top of La Rambla. Menu del dia costs between €9.95 and €12.90.
Cat Bar – a SIAC favourite
C/ Bòria, 17
Nearest metro: Jaume
I have a lot of love for Cat Bar. It’s not that the food is exceptional, it’s average English style comfort food such as beans on toast and chips but the ambience is great, the welcome is lovely, they happily admit dogs and they have free wi-fi. Nothing bad to say about this place.
Placa George Orwell
(just off La Rambla)
A vegan restaurant with a bizarre vegan charcuterie. Located in a great square just off La Rambla. Friendly staff and lots of options for vegans and vegetarians.
Juicy Jones – a SIAC favourite
Cardenal Casañas 7
(just off La Rambla in the Gothic Quarter)
(just off La Rambla in El Raval)
Adorable vegan restaurant in very colourful surroundings. Loads of juices and smoothies to choose from and a tasty menu del dia that continues all day. Loads of options.
C/ Pintor Fortuny, 32
Fresh salad bar – great for raw food vegans – plus a menu del dia. Healthy, lovely vegetarian restaurant on a lovely street in El Raval.
Carrer de Ferran 13
off La Rambla
Cheap middle-eastern takeaway serving fresh falafel in toasted pitta breads. Help yourself to salad from the salad bar.
Organic Market – La Boqueria – a SIAC Favourite
At the back of La Boqueria on the right-hand side
Gorgeous takeaway organic food counter vending large boxes of delicious food for ten euros. Enough for two people or one bulimic. One of the best places for vegetarian food in Barcelona, if not Spain.
C/ Santa Anna, 15
Unglamourous and nintentionally retro self-service vegetarian restaurant. Lots here for vegans too.
C/ Sant Antoni Abat, 52
Delicious vegetarian food in Barcelona’s old seedy quarter. Great surroundings. Delightful food – for your body and your mind.
C/ Jovellanos, 2
Menu del dia and a really decent salad bar. Something here for vegans and raw vegans too.
A menu del dia for ten euros, stuff for vegans – organic where possible. In a lovely square not far from Placa Real.
