Vegetalia is a traditional vegetarian restaurant serving moderately priced vegetarian fodder to the locals and the tourists.
The atmosphere is old fashioned but colourful with orange table cloths and citric lemon walls where tropical pictures hang.
The lunch time buffet is good value (if you have the appetite) and consists of a variety of cold dishes (such as quinoa salad; vegetarian cheese; sliced tomatoes; mushroom, green beans and feta cheese salad; grated carrot; mixed leaves; beetroot etc), along with hot dishes such as vegetarian paella; vegetarian ‘meat’ balls made with red lentils; noodles with vegetables and sauted cabbage.
There are German-style breads served with butter and condiments such as soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, sesame seeds, and Tabasco sauce.
The cost is €8.95 or €3.50 for children. The quality is pretty good and you can really fill yourself up on fairly tasty food, although if you are a raw foodist, there isn’t that much in the cold section that will enable you to collate an interesting meal (you’d be better off visiting during the evening.)
During the evenings (Friday and Saturday only) the a la carte menu offers healthy salads (one of which is almost entirely raw); lasagne; vegetable fajitas, vegetable curry, vegetable escalopes; various pasta dishes and stuffed savoury crepes.
They also have home-made desserts.
My favorite element of Vegetalia is the freshly squeezed juices that include lots of obligatory orange-based juices, along with carrot, apple and ginger; carrot, apple and celery; carrot, apple and beetroot etc.
Vegetalia also serve organic wines, sangria and herbal teas.
I tried the buffet as they didn’t serve a la carte during the day, which was disappointing. There were about ten cold choices and five warm dishes. As far as I know it’s the only vegetarian restaurant in Fuengirola, but let me know in the comment box below if you know of anywhere else.
If you are want to pick up health food supplies Fuengirola is particularly well equipped with organic shops and herboristerias. You might also want to try Biocasa, Bionatura Ekotienda, Naturalis, Nutrisalud, Polen or two herberisterias in the main covered market (near the Renfe): Dapocris and Herboristeria Mercado.
