Type: Wild Camp
Name: Fuente De car park
Where: At the end of the CA-185 opposite the cable car.
How to find it: Follow the CA-185 out of Potes and drive 24km to Fuente De. Turn into the car park opposite the cable car and park at the far end.
This spot was an easy find as Fuente De is such a small place. There are a few hotels and camp sites in the local area but this car park trumps them all, purely for its lack of cost.
There’s a font at the entrance as well as the cafe/restaurant next to the Teleferico (cable car) which is a bit of a manic place as Fuente De is such a tourist trap. There were several campers parked here so we felt pretty safe in the numbers.
Local walks are plentiful and from here you can go deep intot he Picos de Europa or if you’re feeling flush you can relax as the cable car whisks you 900m up to the top in around 4 minutes. From there the views are incredible.
The font obviously took care of the water supply and for toilet business we used the restaurant’s facilities. Food can be bought at the restaurant although it is expensive and not great quality and there are bakeries in the nearby villages of Pido and Espinama.
Sweep ran free in the car park and he loved the walks around the area.
Our Carrefour internet dongle didn’t work well here.
Wild camping may not be your thing but you can always book a hotel in Fuente De by clicking here.
Our Verdict: Another excellent spot for a few free sleeps although quite remote. You need to stock up well on food and water otherwise you’ll be depending on the expensive restaurant next to the teleferico.
Sweep’s Verdict: Big paws up.
