We’d driven around Tossa de Mar for a few hours, making the mistake of going through the tight streets in the centre. We scouted for over an hour before happening across the car park at the back of the leisure centre where three other campers were already parked.

We soon got talking to a young German couple who had been there for three days and they told us the police hadn’t bothered them at all, despite driving through there every night.

Advantages of parking there include a picnic area which had a water supply and the fact that Tossa de Mar was only a 10 minute walk away. There were also several set walks nearby which were a boon for exercising Sweep.

We slept there for three nights during which time several other campers came and went.

It was here that we first met Sergio who had converted his Mercedes camper to run on used vegetable oil.

A young Italian couple were there to sell their hand crafted jewellery and they kindly gave us details of grape picking and wine making places in France where we could make some extra money if we needed it.

Our Carrefour internet dongle worked well here.

Tossa de Mar is a beautiful old town which has been slightly spoilt by tourism. That said it’s still very much worth a visit for its lovely beaches and old castle. You can book hotels there by clicking here.

Verdict: This wild spot was in a great central location with easy access to the town and beach, with a good water supply and toilets located inside the leisure centre. An excellent find.

Sweep’s Verdict: Paws up.
